The American Peace dollars were minted at the end of WWI to celebrate the end of the war. The silver Peace dollar was minted between 1921 and 1928 and was minted again between 1934 and 1935. At that time, the Morgan dollar was minted as standard, but the Peace dollar made an appearance specifically because of its message of peace.
